Feature Friday: Creating Batch Recipes on the Fly

Today, we are going to walk you through BarSight’s newest feature: Creating Batches and Recipes on-the-fly. This update lets you start a batch without needing to set up the product and recipe beforehand. Let’s dive in!

Step 1: Start a New Batch

  • From the main screen, click New Batch.
  • Choose your location — in this case, let’s say it’s your brewery.
  • In the Product dropdown, you’ll see predefined products, but for this example, we’re going to create a new product: Honey Lager.

Step 2: Create a New Product and Recipe

  • Scroll down to the Recipe section. Since this is a new product, New Recipe is already selected.
  • Enter the Batch Number (let’s say 780), a Starting Date of today, Volume of 5 beer barrels, and an ABV of 4.8%.
  • Click Create Batch.

A pop-up will appear to let you know this is a new product and recipe. Confirm, and the system will automatically create the new product, Honey Lager, along with a blank recipe.

Step 3: Basic Recipe Setup

  • You’ll see that the recipe now includes three default steps: Brewing, Fermentation, and Conditioning, each with one untitled task.
  • This gives you the flexibility to immediately start adding ingredients and steps, or keep it simple and move forward.

Step 4: Customizing the Batch Process

  • To tweak the batch details, head into Batch Operations and click Edit Batch Details.
  • You can add new steps, define the equipment types (brewing, fermentation, conditioning, lagering, storage, etc.), and even rearrange or remove steps to suit your brewing process.
  • Inside each step, you can also add or reorder tasks as needed.

Step 5: Save the Recipe for Future Use

  • Once you’re happy with how the batch and recipe are set up, you can save everything for future use.
  • Simply go to Batch Operations and select Save Batch as Recipe.

And there you have it! This feature makes experimenting with new batches a breeze, without the hassle of predefining everything beforehand. Happy brewing!
